Shenyang Int'l Airport Closed due to Snow

Heavy snow has forced the Taoxian International Airport in Shenyang, northeast China's Liaoning Province, to be closed at 2 pm November 25.

More than 30 flights, including one to the Republic of Korea, and one to Japan, have been canceled due to the bad weather. Fortunately, not many travelers have been detained as it is an off season for tourism.

Drizzle this morning, then heavy snow this afternoon dropped the temperature in the city to below zero. Ice over the runway made it impossible for any flights to take off or land on.

Officials in the airport said the airport was expected to reopen at 9:00 am the next morning if the snow stops.

First Snowfall Turns Shenyang into Silvery World

Shenyang, the largest industrial city in northeast China, is coated with the first snowfall of this winter early November 19 morning.

The snowfall started Saturday night and continued to Sunday noon. The roads are icy since the maximum temperature was zero degree centigrade.
