Chinese Women's Federations Urged to Serve Women WholeheartedlyVice President Hu Jintao has urged Chinese women's federations to give full play to their own advantages to wholeheartedly serve women.Women's federations should mobilize women of all ethnic groups and all walks of life to contribute more to the implementation of the country's economic and social development plan for the next five years as well as the modernization drive, Hu said November 25 when addressing a meeting held by the All-China Women's Federation. Hu, also a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said that women, who account for half of China's population, make up a great force for the reform and modernization drive. He called for women's federations to give priority to mobilizing women in rural areas and urban communities. Women's federations should also do their best to help women, especially those in difficulty, resolve their practical problems, Hu said. Hu also stressed that women's federations should assist related departments in cracking down on various crimes to protect women's legitimate rights and interests. Before the meeting, Hu met with the 10 Chinese women, including army and police officers, entrepreneurs, medical experts and an educator, who were recently granted the title of "Outstanding Chinese Woman."
