Beijing to Make Most of Marco Polo Bridge

Marco Polo Bridge (or Lugouqiao Bridge in Chinese), located in the southwest part of Beijing Municipality, is a famous historic site marking the history of the War of Resistance Against Japan fought during the years 1937-1945.

Following a government decision, preparatory work will start up to turn the place into a large modern cultural tourist park in Beijing.

The fullest use will be made of all cultural relics and new constructions will be launched to develop Beijing's tourism and local economy.

According to plans, the new tourist site will be built over an area of 4.3 sq.km, focusing on such themes as "Commemorating the War of Resistance Against Japan" and "Historical Sites and Cultural Relics", into which a total of over 1,000m yuan will be injected.
