Chinese Premier Calls for Enhanced HR Cooperation in East Asia

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji urged Friday redoubled efforts in human resources (HR) development cooperation among East Asian countries.

Zhu issued the call at the summit meeting between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and China, Japan and South Korea (10 + 3), when he spelled out his five-point proposal on enhancing East Asia cooperation.

"East Asia cooperation should focus and be based on human resources development," Zhu said.

Noting a series of personnel exchanges and training programs between China and ASEAN have achieved good results, the Chinese premier pledged the Chinese side will continue to increase its financial input in the China-ASEAN Cooperation Fund to support primarily human resources development projects.

Specifically, he said China's Ministry of Science and Technology will start the practical techniques training program for 10 + 3 next year.
