Hong Kong Entrepreneur Funds Mainland College Education

Hong Kong entrepreneur, Tong Hok-yuan, donated 1 million Hong Kong dollars to set up a foundation at Zhejiang University in East China.

The foundation, established on November 24, will grant one top award, five second-class and 10 third-class awards every year to inspire both the teachers and the students at the university's School of Management to continue their research and study.

He said at the ceremony that talented personnel are crucial for a country's prosperity, and he just wanted to do something for the development of the country's higher education.

Tong only received a primary school education. He has realized the importance of knowledge during his struggle in the business world.

Tong also set up a foundation in Beijing to support the laid-off workers with reemployment training programs.
