HK Chief Executive Visits Coastal ResortsChief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Tung Chee Hwa on Friday visited two fishing village-turned coastal resorts to inspect some of the latest local developments there. While inspecting Sai Kung Town, Tung was briefed on Sai Kung's transformation from a sleepy fishing village into one of Hong Kong 's favorite tourist destinations for both local and foreign visitors within a couple of decades, earning itself the nickname " Back Garden of Hong Kong." "Sai Kung's success is a good example of what can be achieved when the local community, the district council members and the government worked together to capitalize on the local district's unique attractions," Tung said. Tung said more ambitious plans are afoot to further develop the district's tourism potential, including pedestrianization of the waterfront area and the creation of an open-air food bazaar and a "Seafood Street" under a waterfront beautification program. Tung also visited a food factory in Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate, where he saw high technology employed in the production of potato chips and other snacks.
