Shanghai Pudong's Trade Exceeds US$20 Billion

According to statistics from Shanghai Customs, the total trade volume of Shanghai's Pudong New District in the first 10 months of this year has reached US$20.3 billion, up 51.7 percent over the same period last year.

The total amounts of imports and exports are about US$12.68 and US$7.65 billion, respectively, up 68.4 and 30.3 percent.

Exports from state-owned and foreign-invested enterprises has increased steadily, reaching US$4.13 billion and US$3.49 billion, respectively, up 35.4 and 32.04 percent.

The imports and exports of mechanical and electrical products, worth more than US$11.54 billion, make up the bulk of the total.

Japan is the largest trade partner of Pudong, their trade volume exceeds US$4.15 billion.

Big Rise in First Seven Months

The New District reported a year-on-year 55.5 percent rise of foreign trade to reach US$12.38 billion in the first seven months of this year, according to local customs. Imports rose 71.6 percent to 7.74 billion US dollars and exports grew by 34.4 percent to 4.64 billion US dollars.
