Sarovic Elected President of Bosnian Serb Republic

Mirko Sarovic of the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) has won the November 11 presidential elections in Bosnia's Republika Srpska (RS), the Yugoslav state news agency Tanjug reported.

The results were announced by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Banja Luka on Thursday. The OSCE was responsible for elections in Bosnia after a three-year war that ended in 1995.

Sarovic, a 41-year-old law graduate, was a deputy in the RS parliament between September 1996 and 1998. He was RS vice- president till the end of 1998 and is a member of SDS since the founding of the party 10 years ago.

Under the 1995 Dayton accords, Bosnia was divided into the RS and a Muslim-Croat Federation.
