Shaanxi, Hong Kong Seek Economic Cooperation

Economic officials of northwest China's Shaanxi Province Thursday held a round table discussion with 15 members of a Hong Kong financial delegation headed by Peter Woo, chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

They discussed cooperation in finance, trade and economic development.

Jia Zhibang, deputy governor of Shaanxi, said at the round table that Hong Kong has long been the most important trade partner of Shaanxi, with two-way trade volume reaching US$212 million in 1999.

There are now 1,489 Hong Kong-funded enterprises in Shaanxi, with a combined investment of US$1.46 billion.

Jia expressed his hope for more participation by Hong Kong business people in a number of key projects Shaanxi will start in the near future, which range from highways, railways, subways, agricultural and ecological improvement projects to the high-tech sector, tourism and the service industry.
