China to Build High-Speed Information Network in Zhuhai

A high-speed information demonstration network will be built in Zhuhai City near Macao.

It comes after an agreement was signed recently by the city government of Zhuhai, also one of China's five special economic zones, China High-Speed Information Demonstration Net Planning Group and Gaoling Information Science and Technology Co. Ltd. of Zhuhai.

According to the agreement, Gaoling Company, with favorable policies granted by the Zhuhai government and strong technical support from China High-Speed Information Demonstration Net Planning Group, will help raise funds and amass on-line resources to construct a high-speed information demonstration network that will be capable of covering the city on completion of the first phase.

Major achievements from China's high-tech research development plan, known as the 863 Program, will be applied to build the new information network.

The first phase of the new information network will cost 200 million yuan (about US$24.1 million). It will be finished and put into trial service late next year.
