Seminar on Sun Yat-sen's Theory ClosedA seminar focusing on Sun Yat-sen and China's social transformation in the 21st century closed November 24 in the city of Zhongshan, the birthplace of the outstanding forerunner of the democratic revolution in modern China, in south China's Guangdong Province.During the four-day seminar, more than 120 experts and scholars from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and other overseas regions have held talks on Sun's ideas and theories on social reform, country construction and foreign affairs. Born in 1866 in Xiangshan County (now Zhongshan City), Guangdong Province, Dr. Sun was best known across the country as a great revolutionary and a great statesman who fought against imperialist aggression for the independence and freedom of China. Dr. Sun Yat-sen led the struggle to overthrow the feudal monarchy, which reigned for about 2,000 years in China, and helped build up a democratic republic. He died of an illness in Beijing on March 12, 1925. The gathering, organized by the Sun Yat-sen Foundation along with the Memorial Hall of Sun Yat-sen's former residence, was regarded a valuable opportunity not only to study Sun Yat-sen's ideas, but also to contribute to China's peaceful unification, according to experts.
