Wuhan Develops Digital Cameras


First China-made Digital Camera Rolls Off Production Line
Researchers in Wuhan, capital of Central China's Hubei Province, have developed the CMOS digital camera, the first of its kind in China.

The new product was developed by the Wuhan Himalaya Digital Image-formation Technology Company by introducing the research finding of prodigious Beijing University.

The new camera is simple in structure, low in energy consumption and sells for about 1,000 yuan (about US$120). It is expected to be available on the market in the first half of 2001. Next year 30,000 to 50,000 such cameras are projected to be turned out.
