China's Mainland to Become Global Computer Purchase Center

The information industry of Taiwan is moving its manufacturing bases to the mainland on a large scale, and has meanwhile pushed international computer manufacturing giants to move their purchase decision-making center to China.

For instance, Compaq has indicated that it will set up an international purchasing center in China next year. It's anticipated that in the coming two years, China's mainland will completely replace Taiwan Province to become the international computer purchasing center.

Beginning from next year, the top five international manufacturers in terms of purchasing amount from Taiwan will obviously raise the proportion of exports from China, even including notebook PC, listed as a project in which foreign investment is prohibited by China.

According to resources, the production value of information software in China's mainland this year exceeds that of Taiwan for the first time, ranking the third in the world. About 72 percent of the value should be contributed to Taiwanese corporations. In the past year, the Taiwanese information industry has quickened its steps of investing in the mainland, including the items already opened as well as notebook PC.

IBM has sent personnel to China for purchasing and will gradually expand it. Yu Xinchang, president of the Great China Area of Compaq, shows that his company will mainly make purchase from Taiwanese manufacturers in China's mainland after it sets international purchasing centers in China.

Value of IT Products in Motherland Expected to Surpass That of Taiwan

As the environment for investment in Taiwan is deteriorating, Taiwan's hardware manufactures have increased their proportion of production in China's mainland. According to the rough estimation of the Taiwan MIC ( Market Intelligence Center ), the global value of information industry products made by China's mainland will for the first time exceed that of Taiwan with its annul growth rate hitting the world record while Taiwan will quit to take the fourth place.

As estimated by the MIC, the global value of information industry expected to realize in across the Taiwan Straits may reach 25.535 billion US dollars, an annual increase of 38.4 percent, setting a record high in the world.
