CPC Senior Official Stresses One-China Principle

Qian Qichen, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met with visiting Vice-Chairman Wu Poh-hsiung of the Kuomintang (KMT) November 23 in Beijing.

During the meeting, Qian stressed that the one-China principle is unshakable, urging the leader of the Taiwan authorities to agree to the one-China principle and not to conduct any activities aimed at dividing the country.

Cross-Straits relations will develop steadily as long as the leader of the Taiwan authorities recognizes the one-China principle, Qian said.

Qian said that since July this year, he has repeatedly stressed that there is only one China, the mainland and Taiwan are both integral parts of China, and China will not tolerate any activities aimed at challenging the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China.

Qian said that the statement demonstrates that China's mainland is adopting a practical approach in adhering the one-China principle.

Qian concluded the meeting by expressing the hope that the people of Taiwan will understand the sincerity of the Chinese mainland on the issue.

Wu arrived here after attending the Hakka Descendants' Meeting, held in Longyan City in east China's Fujian Province.
