Hunan Province Builds University Student Apartments

Central China's Hunan Province will build college student apartments with a total floor space of two million square meters over the next five years.

Upon completion of these apartments outside campuses, some 10,000 students will move in, according to the Hunan Provincial Department of Education.

By the year of 2005, the total number of college students in Hunan will have increased by 200,000. Yet the existing students apartments are a far cry from the growing needs.

So, the provincial government has decided to build 15 apartment blocks outside campuses during the 2001-2005 period.

Upon completion of these apartments, four undergraduates will share one room, two students pursuing master degree share one room and one post-graduate share one room.

To date, work has started on six apartment blocks outside campuses.
