Chinese-Filipino Assumes Top Philippine Navy PostChinese-Filipino Rear Admiral Guillermo Wong assumed late Wednesday afternoon the command of the Philippine Navy following the mandatory retirement of Vice Admiral Luisito Fernandez, Philippine News Agency (PNA) said.A product of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1969, Wong will spearhead the Navy until December next year when he reaches the mandatory retirement age of 56, the PNA noted. A second generation Chinese-Filipino with paternal roots in China,Wong holds a degree in industrial engineering from the University of the Philippines and a master's degree in National Security Administration from the National Defense College of the Philippines. Wong was Navy Vice Commander from June 1, 2000 until his appointment as Flag Officer-in-Command. |
