Hong Kong to Open Trade Office in West China

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC) will establish an office in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, revealed a senior official from the council Thursday, November 23.

The new office, which is scheduled to be put into operation by the end of the year, will collect information on industry, commerce, trade and the service sector in west China.

The establishment of the office represents Hong Kong TDC's efforts to seek cooperation opportunities with the region, according to Peter K.C. Woo, chairman of the Hong Kong TDC at a financial seminar held in Xi'an, capital city of Shaanxi Province Thursday.

The council's office will be the eleventh established on the Chinese mainland, and the first one in northwest China.

The seminar, called "new challenges of financing", is the largest activity held by the Hong Kong TDC in west China so far.

It is expected that the seminar will help local financial circles to learn more about Hong Kong's advanced financial service system.

Hong Kong has become the largest overseas investor in Shaanxi Province. Statistics show that Hong Kong had invested US$1.45 billion by the end of last year, accounting for 52 percent of the total overseas investment in the province.
