Company Gets Aid for Ozone-friendly Fire Extinguisher Production
A Chinese company has obtained US$6.05 million of aid from the United Nations Montreal Protocol member countries foundation for the production of ozone-friendly fire extinguishers.
Traditional fire extinguishing agents contain halon, which is listed among ozone-depleting substances (ODS) to be phased out completely by 2005 in China.
Haihua Group, China's largest ocean chemical products producer, will become the country's largest carbon-dioxide fire extinguisher producer with an annual capacity of 600,000 bottles when the project, worth 137.5 million yuan, is completed.
The aid is part of a package offered by the Montreal Protocol member countries foundation, which totaled US$62 million, to maintain China's fire-fighting capability when halon is being eliminated.
