Container Throughput of Shenzhen Port To Top 4 Million

The transport of containers, by ship, through south China's special economic zone of Shenzhen is expected to exceed 4 million standard containers, an official source said November 22.

This will make the Shenzhen Port one of the top ten largest container ports in the world.

Tang Yaozhi, deputy secretary-general of the Shenzhen municipal government, said at an opening ceremony of a new berth, that by the end of October this year, the containers being transported in and out of Shenzhen had reached 3.2 million standard units, up 34 percent from the same period last year.

According to the official, the city will start constructing a new deep sea-route which will make the Shenzhen port open to traffic in all weather conditions for the fourth generation of container ships.
