Kenyan Soldiers to Leave for S. Leone, East Timor on Peace Missions

Kenyan President Daniel arap Moi Wednesday bade farewell at the State House here to 1,038 Kenyan soldiers to be leaving for Sierra Leone and East Timor to join the UN sponsored peace-keeping missions.

803 Kenyan soldiers will be deployed in Sierra Leone while 235 others dispatched to East Timor to boost the UN operations there, said a press release from the Presidential Press Services.

Moi, at the farewell party, presented Kenyan flags to the soldiers, the first group of which is expected to leave for Sierra Leone on November 28, while the first batch to East Timor on December 8.

Professionalism has distinguished Kenyan armed forces in the world, said Moi on the occasion, adding he hopes the soldiers will stick to it in their new missions.
