First Winter Nadam Festival of Inner Mongolia to Be Staged

The first Nadam Festival ever held in winter is to be held from December 17 to 25 in Hulun Buir League, Inner Mongolia in north China.

The festival is jointly sponsored by the Tourism Administration of Inner Mongolia and the government of Hulun Buir League.

"Nadam" is a Mongolian word meaning "recreation". The festival is a grand occasion for the Mongolian and Ewenki ethnic groups, and is usually held in late summer or early autumn when the pastures are at their greenest and the herds at their prime.

The winter Nadam will be held in two phases. The first phase will feature the Ice and Snow Travel Festival from December 17 to 19 in Ewenki Autonomous Banner in Hulun Buir.

The second phase, from December 20 to 25, is planned for visitors to travel around the league with high quality services involving catering, lodging, traveling and entertaining programs.

On December 25, Christmas Day, a closing ceremony will be held in Manzhouli City bordering Russia.
