France Rules Out Possibility of UN Peacekeeping in Palestine

France ruled out Wednesday the possibility of launching a UN peacekeeping operation in the Palestinian territories for the time being due to opposition from Israel.

French Defense Minister Alain Richard told Radio France Internationale that there is no agreement with Israel on the issue and Israel is expected to keep its opposition to a plan of deploying a UN peacekeeping force in Palestine.

The UN Security Council will be divided over the issue, he added.

Some Arab countries have urged a UN peacekeeping force to be sent to the Palestinian territories to stop the Israeli-Palestinian blooding conflict, which has claimed more than 240 lives, mostly Palestinians, since the eruption late September.

Richard said Israel has agreed with the French proposal of sending investigators to the Palestinian territories to find out the fact of the violence.
