China Revises Trademark LawThe Ninth National People's Congress has set about revising the trademark law in a move to curb usurpatory registration of trademarks of others. The trademark authorities are now drafting the amendment to the trademark law. It is reported the amendment would not only lift the ban on the subject of ownership of trademarks, but also establish the system of supervision of justice departments over review of trademark cases, and step up protection of the right of trademarks as well. Copyright Law Needs FortifyingChina's Copyright Law should be refined to build on the copyright protection the law already has offered in its past 10 years, according to some officials and legal experts. Some provisions in the current law are lagging behind new situations due to rapid economic, scientific and cultural development, said National Copyright Administration Commissioner Yu Youxian at a 10th anniversary conference September in Beijing. The Copyright Law became effective on June 1, 1991. The Trademark Law took effect in 1983 and was revised in 1993. |
