Ecuador Congress Reaffirms One China Policy

Ecuador's National Chamber reaffirmed its belief in the "One China" policy on Tuesday, notingthat Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory.

Hugo Moreno, chairman of the international affairs committee, and Congresswoman Alexandra Vera told a Chinese delegation that they believed the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing all Chinese people.

Regarding human rights, Moreno and Vera said they supported China's standards.

The Chinese delegation, headed by Li Meng, member of Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress (NPC), arrived Tuesday at the invitation of the Ecuador National Chamber for a six-day visit.

The delegation met with Hugo Quevedo, Congress president, and spoke with the members of the Congress on health, environment and ecological conservation issues.
