Albanian Politicians Condemn Violence of Democratic ProtestersAlbanian Parliamentary Speaker Skender Gjinushi condemned violent protests by Albania's opposition Democratic Party, which resulted in setting fire to the parliament building Monday night. The parliamentary speaker said that protesters' attempts to cause chaos in Albania Tuesday were futile and Albania is stable. Gjinushi also warned that the tolerance of the government is limited, and no one has the right to break the law. Albania's prosecutorial office is authorized to investigate and affix responsibility of the organizers and ringleaders of the violence; the Albanian parliament is determined to support the fight against extremists, Gjinushi noted. Arta Dade, the foreign affairs secretary of Albania's ruling Socialist Party, also held a press conference to denounce Democratic protesters' savage acts, and urged Albania's judicial department to bring troublemakers to justice. About 200 supporters of the Albanian Democratic Party held protests at Skenderbeut Square in Tirana on Monday night and then marched to the parliament. They burned a car which belonged to a socialist member of parliament, and pushed the car into the yard of the parliament building. The fire was immediately extinguished by guards. The Democratic Party refused to recognize the results of local elections last month in which the ruling Socialist Party won overwhelmingly. The Democratic Party has since held protests and demonstrations everyday to push the government to give in.
