Seminar on Protection of Ancient City Wall

A seminar on the protection of ancient city walls, sponsored by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, opened November 21.

Some 60 experts on cultural relics and ancient architecture from all over the country will attend the three day seminar, sharing their experience and lessons in terms of ancient city wall protection.

They will also work out a national outline for the protection of the country's ancient city walls during the seminar.

Including the Great Wall, China used to have thousands of city walls of various sizes, which totaled 100,000 kilometers in length.

According to the experts, these ancient city walls have played an important role in resisting invasions and preventing natural disasters throughout China's history, they now, as part of human civilization, need to be protected as much as possible.
