Barak Inspects Israeli Troops in GazaIsraeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak inspected Israeli troops posted at the Nafih Daklim Jewish settlement Tuesday afternoon as part of his inspection to the military units assigned to guard the Jewish settlers in Gaza.Barak was expected to listen to reports from General Yanir Nafih, the Provincial Army Commander, and meet Gaza settler representatives at Israel Defence Forces' (IDF) headquarters. It was the first time by an Israeli prime minister to visit Jewish settlements in two years. Earlier, Israeli President Moshe Katsav paid an inspection visit to the Kfar Darom Jewish settlement in central Gaza. The visits came following a strong bomb attack on an Israeli school bus near Kfar Darom settlement, in which two Israelis were killed and nine others injured. Israeli gunship helicopters pounded Gaza City and other Palestinian areas Monday evening in retaliation. Some 6,700 Jewish settlers live in 16 settlements in Gaza under the protection of Israeli soldiers. |
