Liu Guozheng performed with composure and courageousness in two single events, resulting in 3-1 over the German player in semi-final and again with a 3-0 win over the Croatian player in the final. There was hardly any mistake in his attacking and defending and the title naturally went to him. In men's and women's double-events, we've got an easy win. After Ma Lin and Liu Guozheng beat their opponents from Austria by 21-13 and 21-18, Zhang Yining and Zhang Yingying snatched the title with 21-12 and 21-13, leaving the Romanians behind.
Starting from 16th, about 214 players from 33 countries and regions took part in the tournament using 40-mm balls. Top seeds like Waldner and others have all joined in the contests, yet they were all kicked off without exception before forwarding to the final.
