Chinese Customs Officers Seizes Smuggled Cigarettes

Customs officers of Jiangmen, south China's Guangdong Province, seized two loads of smuggled cigarettes valued at 1.15 million yuan (US$138,554) recently.

On November 15 and 17, two trucks were found carrying 182 cases and 295 cases of cigarettes, respectively, which were imported without legal certificates.

The cases are under further investigation.

Sources said that Jiangmen Customs has handled 18 cases involving smuggled cigarettes since the beginning of the year. Nearly 3,000 cases of cigarettes with a total value of over five million yuan were confiscated.
