90 Percent of China-made Pagers Qualified

The latest selective examination of pagers showed that 92 percent of examined China-made pagers met state quality standards.

The examination by the State Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision covered 25 enterprises across China and found that 23 out of the 25 checked products qualified.

Since 1995, China conducted three examinations of pager quality, and qualification rates were all above 90 percent.

The pager industry is a burgeoning sector in China in recent years. Experts believe that the sector will face more competition after China enters the World Trade Organization.

By August this year, the number of China's pager users exceeded 75 million, and there were more than 60 pager producing enterprises in China, with a total output volume of 16 million annually, earning six billion yuan.

The examination also found that the pager's control software technology and the chip production technology in China are still backward. Few enterprises are capable of producing advanced pagers due to the lack of funds and technology.
