EU-Balkan Summit to Emphasize Regional Cooperation:French FM

European Union-Balkan summit to be held on November 24 in Croatia will emphasize the regional cooperation in the Balkan countries, French Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine said Monday.

In an interview with the daily Liberation, Vedrine said that a closer regional cooperation among the Balkans does not mean a new Yugoslavia.

"This is not contradictory with the rapprochement of these countries with the European Union, because it is not about the re-creation of a new Yugoslavia, but about helping the modernization and opening of these countries," he said.

The summit in Zagreb would be "a democratic reunion and rapprochement between the Balkans and Europe," Vedrine said.
