China to Overhaul College Entrance Examination System
China will further reform its college entrance examination system in 2001, according to sources from the Ministry of Education. Thirteen provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities will join in a "3 plus X" reform alongside 5 others including Guangdong, Jilin, Shanxi, Jiangsu and Zhejiang with same reforms still being carried out.
Tianjin, Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Heilongjiang, Shanghai, Anhui, Fujian, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan and Shaanxi are on the chosen list. Guangdong, Shanghai and Henan will introduce comprehensive capacity test into "X" while the remaining 15 others will abide by the form of "3 (Chinese, English, Mathematics) plus a general test for Art or Science".
China will begin to log on to the Internet to enroll students in 2001 and realize complete online enrollment by 2002. It will place great emphasis on doing a good job of test papers and an all-round development and quality education of all students in middle and primary schools.
