Intel to Invest Another 200 Million US Dollars in ChinaThe world's largest chip-maker Intel is investing another 200 million US dollars in China next year, to expand its production capability in Pudong, Shanghai, a senior official of the company said in Shanghai recently.Intel started second-phase expansion construction of its first production base in China last August. The base is located in the Pudong Development Zone in east Shanghai. After it is completed next August, the workshop area will have been expanded by five times while the number of employees will grow to 3000 in 2004 from the current 800, according to Chen Junsheng, vice president of Intel. Chen said Intel is optimistic about the future of the Chinese market. China currently has the third largest PC market and second largest mobile phone market in the world, and will develop into the second largest and largest, respectively in three years, he noted. |
