Chinese Experts Helps Uganda In Agriculture

The methane generating pit program, backed by Chinese experts, has been successful in Uganda, Africa.

The program was carried out by agricultural experts from Zhejiang, coastal province in east China.

The 20 pits were located in surrounding areas near Uganda's capital and another city. Methane generated by the pits could be used for cooking and power generating, which helps reduce deforestation and maintain an ecological balance in the country.

The provincial agricultural department began to assist the country in farming in the 1980s, helping Ugandans harvest rice and becoming self-sufficient in their food supply.

Through years of aid work, the province has trained a number of agricultural experts and technicians in rice cultivating, livestock and poultry, brick-making, horticulture and methane pit building in an effort to improve the country.

By providing the free use of land and other preferential policies The Uganda Government welcomed Chinese enterprises to develop Agriculture in the country.

The two sides have great potential for cooperation in agricultural technology, machinery and the exporting of farm and sideline products, said a provincial official.
