Two-ton Huge Glutinous Rice Dumpling Made In China
The largest Zongzi, or glutinous rice dumpling, made its debut in a four-truck parade in Nanning, capital of southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The pillow-shaped dumpling was 2230 kg in weight, 2.4 m in length, 1.6 m in width and 0.9 m in height, and can serve at lest 5,000 people.

It was made by Mingyuan Xindu Hotel, the only five-star hotel in Nanning.

The dumpling used 550 kg of rice, 250 kg of mung bean, 75 kg of Chinese chestnut, 10 kg of dried shrimps, 10 kg of mushroom, 150 kg of pork and 180 tons water. It took 50 chefs and 18 hours to make it, according to Chen Xiaowei, general manager of the Hotel.

The activity cost a total of 150,000 yuan (US$18,000), Chen added.

The making of the huge dumpling aimed to add to the fun for the ongoing Ninth China Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival, largest in the country, and Nanning International Folk Song Festival here, hoping to raise public interest in catering service and tourism of the city.

Nanning tourism administration, chief designer of the dumpling, applied to Shanghai Guinness headquarters for the record of "the world's largest Zongzi". The result will be disclosed in two days.
