Information System for Protection of Dongting Lake Wetlands Developed
Chinese researchers have developed the country's first information system for the protection of Dongting Lake wetlands in central China's Hunan Province.
The system analysis is capable of demonstrating and analyzing the evolution of the Dongting Lake basin, floods, wetland degeneration and restoration. The system was jointly developed by the Yangtze River Project for the World Nature Foundation and the Nanjing Geography and Lake Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
According to experts, the system will provide a state-of-art means to analyze, forecast and make decision on information concerning Dongting Lake wetlands.
It will also make it possible to effectively protect wetlands and do research in this regard.
