Beijing Classifies Tourist Attractions

Beijing will categorize its scenic spots into four different levels for effective management, according to the local tourism bureau.

A special team will evaluate all the tourist attractions on 10 aspects, including traffic communication, sanitation, shopping and environmental protection. Each attraction will then be rated from "AAAA" to "A".

The Summer Palace, the Palace Museum and eight other prestigious spots in Beijing have been recommended to gain a "AAAA" level authentication this year. Seventy five local tourist attractions will enter the evaluation process next year, according to the tourism bureau.

Beijing will finish its tourist attraction classification by the end of 2005.
