Vice-Premier Meets HK Business LeadersChinese Vice-Premier Wen Jiabao met Friday with visiting business leaders from the Federation of Hong Kong Industries headed by Henry Tang Ying-yen, chairman of the federation.The Vice-Premier informed the guests on the interior's economic progress and the proposal of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee on the 10th five-year plan (2001-2005) for national economic and social development, saying that the proposal will provide more business opportunities for Hong Kong. He pointed out that China's impending accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) will lead to new challenges and opportunities, adding that businessmen in Hong Kong should take advantage of the chance to make greater contributions to the motherland's economic growth and Hong Kong's prosperity. With more than 2,600 member companies in 22 sectors, the federation, founded in 1960, has now become one of the most influential chambers of commerce in Hong Kong. Prior to the meeting, the visiting delegation had met with senior officials from the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, and the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation. |
