Foreign Trade Firm Wins ISO9002 CertificatesBeijing Foreign Trade Import & Export Corp. has passed the internationally recognized quality control standard system ISO9002.It thus has become Beijing's first foreign trade enterprise to comply with the stringent requirements. ISO9002 certificates, as a series of international standards for quality management and supervision, have been adopted in more than 100 countries worldwide. It is regarded as the "passport" for Chinese enterprises to enter the overseas market. Earning the certificate will help the company sharpen its competitive edge in the international market. Beijing municipal government has made preferential policies to encourage local enterprises to take part in the quality control authentication process. More than 1,000 overseas-invested enterprises in Beijing have been listed as eligible candidates to apply for the certificate, according to Zhang Mao, vice-mayor of Beijing. "We will try to make at least 30 percent of the local exporting enterprises to pass the international quality authentication by 2002," he said. Statistics from Beijing Customs show that local enterprises have realized a foreign trade volume of US$7.3 billion in the first eight months of the year, up 42.7 percent over the same period last year. Exports have realized their best performance with an increase of 57.2 percent over the same period last year to reach some three billion US dollars. |
