Chinese Model to Vie in World Super Model Final

A Chinese model champion is going to compete in the Ford' 2000 World Super Model Final in the United States.

Gao Shan, 17, a native of Shenyang, capital of northeast China's Liaoning Province, defeated 60 other selected beauties from across the country and won the national title.

It was the second time for the city to have its model girl capture the title.

Gao Shan is a student at Shenyang Foreign Affairs Service School. She won the hearts of international judges because of her chastity, grace and shapely 1.84 m figure. She has "a face of the new century," said Eillen Ford, founder of US Ford Model Corp., and sponsor of the contest.

As the market economy permeates China, a country with huge garment market, the Chinese develop a stronger sense of fashion and the modeling industry witnessed fast growth. The comprehensive quality of Chinese models has improved and approached close to the international level.

Ford' 2000 World Super Model Contest will fall on November 30 in scenic Puerto Rico, and Gao Shan will represent China to compete with model champions from 50 plus countries and regions.

Being one of four big model companies in the world, Ford Model Corp. was founded in 1946 and successfully fostered some world-class stars.

Ford's World Super Model Contest, set up in 1980 by Ford Model Corp., has been the "Olympics" in international modeling industry. The company held its 20th successful contest in China last year. Last April, the company authorized China Shenyang Liming Garment Group to exclusively organize a yearly selective contest for the Super Model Final from 2000 on.
