Japanese Enterprises Favor Chinese Markets

With the recovery of Japan's economy, its enterprises hope to further cut their production cost under the circumstance of a rise in profits made, Japan's manufacturers are prepared to expand their investments in China's inland areas and other Asian countries.

According to a survey conducted by an official organization, the Japan International Cooperation Bank, 54.5 percent of the Japanese enterprises interviewed indicated that they had considered expanding their overseas operation in the coming three years.

It's reported that all circles of Japan have been paying close attention to the annual survey which was first conducted in 1989, because it has become a reliable index for Japanese manufacturers to invest abroad. In the opinion of the interviewed enterprises, China's inland has the brightest prospect in the middle term. Among the total 469 enterprises investigated, 242 chose China for their overseas investment, followed in order by the United States favored by only 164 Japanese enterprises; Thailand, 88; Indonesia, 54; and Malaysia, 43.

The Bank official said that the number of Japanese enterprises looking China's inland as promising is on the increase. About 79.6 percent of them take a fancy to the growth potential of Chinese markets while 57.9 percent are interested in China's cheap labor. Besides, China's imminent entry into the WTO also contributes to its attraction to Japanese enterprises.

The survey shows that Japanese enterprises bent on expanding their business in China's inland also include manufacturers of household appliances, computers, electronics, chemicals and automobiles.
