Niu Won the Running Target Runner-up in 2000 Munich World CupOverall the world's very best 114 shooters from 34 countries could qualify or the ISSF World Cup Final 2000 in Munich, which started Nov.15.The best eight shooters of the this year's World Cups in Sydney, Munich, Milan and Atlanta were qualified and apart from this qualification system, the Sydney 2000 medallists and the title defenders of 1999 received a "wild card" to compete in the rifle, pistol and running target matches of the ISSF World Cup Final 2000. World record holder, Kurzer, opens the world cup final Germany's world record holder, Manfred Kurzer, won the 10m running target event followed by China's Zhiyuan Niu and Guatemala's Attila Solti. The 31-year-old former double world champion Kurzer started the final in second only one point back of the 27-year old Sydney bronze-medallist Zhiyuan Niu and took the lead already after three shots, scoring nice center shots, while Niu Zhiyuan missed the ten already three-times. But also Kurzer failed with a 8.7 and 9.1 for his last two shots, while the current world champion Niu scored solid tens up to his last shot. Nevertheless at the end Kurzer defeated Niu by six tenths of a point and took after 1998 his second world cup final trophy back home. The other finalist couldn't get into the gold medal race, after being back already with two and more points, but the minor medal was still to aim for. |
