US President Arrives in Vietnam

U.S. President Bill Clinton arrived in Hanoi November 16 night for a four-day official visit to Vietnam after attending the 8th informal leadership meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in Brunei.

The Clinton's visit to Vietnam, at the invitation of Vietnamese State President Tran Duc Luong, is the first one of a US president to the country after the national reunification of Vietnam in 1975.

According to an agenda of the visit provided by the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry, Clinton, who will soon finish his presidential term, is scheduled to hold talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Tran Duc Luong and meet with Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Van Khai on Friday.

Vietnam's Party leader Le Kha Phieu will also meet with Clinton on Saturday.
