China's Textile Industry Calls for E-Commerce
E-commerce is urgently needed in the foreign trade of China's textile products as the country's anticipated WTO accession is accelerating the pace for the industry to get involved in international competition.
The industry is closely associated with the international market with a third of China's textile products manufactured for export and a significant part of the country's raw textile materials, fabric materials and production equipment depend on imports, said Xu Kunyuan, vice-director of the State Administration of Textile Industry (SATI) at the annual conference of the Fifth Asia Pacific Symposium on Textile Industry opened Tuesday in this south China city.
Du Yuzhou, director of SATI, said that the building of an e-commerce network will enable the traditional industry to have an edge on the world market by improving the efficiency and lowering the trading cost.
E-commerce is expected to be used in both the manufacturing sector and the distribution sector to invigorate the industry, but the realization of the industry's e-commerce network has a long way to go with the current equipment they have now, said the officials.
