China Wishes to Expand Ties with Dominique
"We are willing to establish and develop a normal state-to-state relationship with all countries, including Dominique, on the basis of the five principles of peaceful co-existence," said Wei Jianxing, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. Wei made the remarks while meeting with a delegation led by Rafael A. Subervi Bonilla, general secretary of the Dominican Revolutionary Party, the ruling party of the Caribbean country. Subervi said that although the two countries do not have a diplomatic relationship, the Dominican Revolutionary Party wishes to maintain and further develop a friendly relationship with the CPC as it has consistently done so in the past. The general secretary said that the Dominican Revolutionary Party respects the stand of the Chinese government on the Taiwan issue. He also expressed the belief that the Chinese people will certainly achieve the goal of complete reunification. Wei, who is also a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, said that China is glad to see that personnel exchanges between the two countries have increased and mutual understanding has deepened over the past years. Since economic representative offices were opened in both countries in 1994, bilateral relations has seen new development, he added. Subervi, who is also the secretary of State for Interior and Police, said that the Chinese people voiced support for Dominique's just struggles against the invasion of the United States in 1960s, which remains fresh in the memory of the Dominican people. He pointed out the Dominican Revolutionary Party and the CPC have many similarities in their experiences as both waged heroic struggles in defending national unity and safeguarding social progress. Wei said the CPC will work with the Dominican Revolutionary Party to enhance cooperation between the two parties and countries. The delegation is visiting China as guests of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee. Deputy head of the department Zhang Zhijun was present at the meeting. | |
