According to Guo Jianhua, the deputy chief-engineer of Shanghai Telecom Company, the 3ed generation is a synthesized one having both earth and satellite systems with a global coverage fit for developing businesses of voices, broadband databases, graphic images and multimedia and so on, a highly intellectualized and advanced communication system also able to support individuals for global mobile communications.

China enjoys one of the most extensive markets for mobile communications in the world. The mobile users in China are expected to reach 100 million by 2005, and 300 million by 2010, a yearly increase of 40 million. China's research group on mobile communication standard has joined forces with its international counterparts, and its participation may play an active role in helping boost the unification and harmonization of the 3G mobile communication standard.

Attaching great importance to the research and development of the 3G mobiles, the State Telecom Administration has set up a special group for its evaluation and coordination. In addition, they've also handed in the technology of our own intellectual property rights, which was adopted and acknowledged by the international community. It has thus greatly enhanced China's position and image in the sphere of global mobile communications.
