Public Servants Have to Learn More Laws

Officials and functionaries working in various government departments should study laws for at least 40 hours every year, stipulates a proposal released recently by some ministries.

In line with the provisions of the proposal issued by the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of Communist Party of China (CPC), the Ministry of Personnel and the Ministry of Justice, a special office has been set up to administer issues relating to popularizing the law among public servants.

The curricula for the program mainly covers Chinese late leader Deng Xiaoping's theory on administration and law, basic principles of administration according to laws, and the Constitution as well as a number of laws relating to government administration, the China Legal Daily reported November 16.

To facilitate the implementation of the program, symposiums, workshops, lectures and TV contest on legal knowledge are encouraged to be hold.

The proposal suggests that an annual national or provincial-level exam be held and the score the public servant gets be taken into consideration if he or she will be promoted.
