Jiang Urges Continued Reform of Asian EconomiesAsian nations must not grow lax in developing their economies and should continue with reforms, Chinese President Jiang Zemin said Thursday when addressing the eighth informal meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation."We in the Asian region must continue to develop our economies, take advantage of favorable global and regional conditions, upgrade economic structures and continue to create better conditions for sustained and stable economic growth," said the Chinese President. "We should not lose sight of the hidden dangers facing the global economic development," Jiang warned. Asia has once again become a prominent player in the global economy, and after having overcome the effects of the financial crisis, many countries are now on the road to recovery, Jiang noted. However, he mentioned that the unstable capital and foreign exchange markets and increasing international oil prices have created adverse conditions for economic growth. "The United States, Japan and the euro zone are key balancers in the global economy. Thus, their future plans deserve attention," Jiang added. |
