Russia Rejects US Flour for ChechensRussia has refused to accept nearly 3,000 tons of US flour that had been delivered to Russia' s Northern Ossetia republic as part of the UN food program for Chechen refugees, the Russian State Bread Inspectorate said on November 15.Each kilogram of the flour was found to contain 3.6 to 24.1 milligrams of magnetic metal admixture, much more than the amount of 3 milligrams per kilogram, which is regarded as safe for human consumption, Viktor Maltsev, deputy head of the inspectorate, told the press. Moreover, the flour has been found to smell and have a bitter taste and its gluten is of low quality, Maltsev said. The inspectorate has informed the representatives of the UN food program that the flour is harmful to human health and will be sent back to the U.S. supplier, the official said. |
