China, Chile to Expand Cooperation

Chinese President Jiang Zemin and Chilean President Ricardo Lagos November 15 expressed their hope to expand the two countries economic and trade cooperation and their coordination on major world issues.

During their bilateral meeting on the sideline of the 8th informal leadership meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, Logas said Chile attaches great importance to developing relationship with China and hopes to further expand trade and investment between the two countries.

He expressed his satisfaction over the cooperation between the two countries in the international affairs, saying that the two countries have many consensus over many international issues.

The Chilean leader said his country actively supports China's access into the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Also expressing satisfaction over the Sino-Chilean ties, Jiang Zemin said the Chinese government attaches great importance to the development of economic and trade cooperation with Chile.

Jiang said the economies of the two countries are complementary and there are great potentials for expanding bilateral trade, expressing China's wish to explore together with Chile the possibility of expanding trade, particularly cooperation in the economic and technical fields.

The bilateral trade between China and Chile maintains the momentum of growth in recent years. Chile is now China's second largest trade partner in Latin America.

The two countries will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.

The Chinese leader added China is willing to work together with Chile to develop fully cooperative partnership in the new century.
